       In some cases money can give you power but when an evil alien race invades your planet, technology, and fear are the real source of power. In the book the revenge of seven and in the rest of the Lorien legacies by Pittacus Lore although the main characters are strong, the evil alien race called the Mogadorians have the real power.
        In this book the main characters are aliens from the planet Lorien and have special superpowers that only people in their race can have. In this group their strength lies in their superpowers and in their relationships with each other. Their powers or legacies as they call them give the main characters great physical power. Their strong relationships with each other allow them to fight as one and overpower the Mogadorians lone warriors. These are some of the ways that the main characters have power.
     In this text the Mogadorians have power many ways. One example is how they trade their advanced technology with humans to gain their favor. This is how their technological advancements give them power and control throughout the book. Their advanced weaponry is also good for fighting which gives them an advantage. They also have numbers, their entire population is made for war and they can also make new (vat born) Mogadorians on the go. Another example is how they use fear to get to humans to do there bidding and allow them resources. These are the ways that the Mogadorians  have power.
     After reading this book and thinking over the evidence, I believe that the Mogadorians have the real power. They are basically the humans overlord and their are thousands of them for each of Loriens people. This shows that they are the most powerful group in this book due to their technology, use of fear, and numbers.

          Tuesday, September 11, 2001 8:46 am the first plane is crashed into the world trade center by a group of terrorists called al-Qaeda. These attacks killed about 3000 people and less then 1 percent of them were made up of the hijackers. On this one day there were also over 10 billion dollars caused in infrastructure and property damage. In the it has always just seemed like an unfortunate event that has now passed, but now when I think of all the lost family members, and the children waiting for their parents to come home, it gives this issue of terrorism a whole different and horrible meaning. This is why I am so grateful that my dad made it out alive, and why I dread the sorrow in his eyes whenever we pass the memorial. At times like these I can tell he is thinking of all of his friends and colleagues killed in less than two hours on that day, and how the amount of casualties was so large that there was another person with the exact same name as his killed in that attack. Some people fear that the new freedom tower will attract more terrorism but I believe that it creates hope and shows the rest of the world that it can't break us.

Critical thinking question on The Death Cure by James Dashner-why does Thomas feel conflicted about getting his memory back?


Possible reasons-

-He doesn't trust the people that would help him recover it

-He feels like he has a new life with the people that he met during the trials

-He already vaguely remembers being a part of the group that he hates

-He knows that his parents are dead

-He knows that the people may just mess up his mind more then they already have

          The article "is Mideast peace possible?" is about whether or not the countries in the middle east will decide on peace. There are two authors of this article the first one is Dennis Ross who believes that it is possible, and Aaron David Miller the second author does not think so. I agree partially with both sides of the argument but in the end I do believe that it can end in peace.
          There are many reasons why someone may think that Mideast peace is not possible. According to Aaron David Miller "The truth is that neither Israeli or Palestinian leaders are prepared to own their negotiations to end the conflict as much as they need to." This shows that neither side will admit that they are wrong and will continue fighting until the end of their enemy. This also shows why many people have the opinion that it cannot end and peace and why they think it will end in the destruction of one country or another.
          There are multiple examples of why I think that they may decide on peace. According to Dennis Ross "so long as these two distinct national peoples live next to each other, they will have to find a way to peacefully coexist." This supports my opinion, Dennis Ross', and many other peoples opinion that although neither side will back down they will still have do compromise unless they want to destroy their own country which will then force them to submit into peace.
          This article has made me think that in any rough situation peace is possible and although compromise can be hard it is still always an option. I have also learned that there are many different opinions on this topic and that not everyone will agree on mine in particular. These are the different things that I have taken away from the article "Is Mideast peace possible" by Dennis Ross and Aaron David Miller.

Poem about a social issue

 

 

Bullying isn't right

No one should ever fight

Bullies can be mean

There problems are never seen

They should see it isn't alright

 

I decided on this topic because it is an important issue especially at our age.  I pity bullies in some ways, this poem is not targeted to victims of bullying but the bullies themselves. I believe that the reason that a child would bully another child is because they have been bullied by someone at home so they think it is alright or they just need someone to take their anger out on. The last line of the poem means that a misguided child needs someone to show them what is right and help them realize the truth. These are the reasons why I wrote my poem on the issue of bullying.

 

 

Reading response on the social issues in the book 1984

          There are many different social issues in the book 1984 by George Orwell. One of these issues is that there is an unfair and corrupt dictator in the time and place that the story is about. There is also a lot of sexual content like prostitution that is an issue now in the real world as well as in the book. The dictator is very bad and will kill anyone who stands in his way. The rest of the government is taken up by cruel men that take advantage of people with no fear of getting caught because of their position.

          This book is bad because it is portraying these many issues in a very neutral way instead of showing them badly and teaching their true aspects instead of what they really are. This text makes me think more deeply into the issues in the world and helps me realize how lucky I am to not have to deal with them. It also makes me sympathize with people that are victims of these issues and are not as well off as me.

 These are the different social issues in the book 1984 by George Orwell and the different ways that I think about them. The main reason that I think that these issues are bad is because they are still going on today and that even though this is a made up story these are real problems that real people are having to deal with.

Museum Experience

           I really enjoyed the New York City Activists exhibit at the museum. I thought it was interesting to see the different types of protest. I also liked seeing the different things that people are fighting for. As well as that I enjoyed the different activities we did to explore the different types of protest and how people go about them.
          We did many different activities that helped us to look deeper into New York Cities history with public activism. One activity we did was when we looked at pictures and had to determine if they were for or against woman suffrage. Another activity is when we made buttons for political problems that we feel strongly about. Another cool activity that we participated in was when we looked at all the pictures and screens and saw how determined those people were to get what they wanted. These are some activities we did to look deeper into New York Cities history with public activism.
          These are some things that I found interesting in our visit to the New York City Activism exhibit in the Museum Of The City Of New York. These are also some examples of why I found the visit so enjoyable and insightful as well as making me want to be more active in my community.

1984

                             The book 1984 was written by a man named George Orwell who was scared of what his society and government would become after the end of world war 2.  This book has been banned in many New York City reading establishments for multiple reasons but some other people, like me have wondered why. adults have many different reasons to ban this book from school libraries although I agree with some of their points I still believe that they should not ban it. There are many reasons that I have this opinion but the main one is that if a child wants to find out about something enough they will figure out how to find out about it, and no adult can do anything about, so why try to stop them in the first place.
                            There are many valid reasons that adults may want to ban this book from schools around the city. One reason is that there are many different sexual concepts like prostitution which parents will not want their children exposed to at that age. Another example is that in the book there is a dictatorship where the dictator is corrupt and even in real life those usually end in disaster. Another reason is that the other political figures are just as corrupt as their leader and take advantage of less high ranking people and will do anything for power. A fourth example is that the main character isn't a hero but is just a rebel that will do anything for his cause even kill a child as stated in the book. A last example is that it relates strongly to what is happening in some countries today and that real people are going through what is happening in the book is sad to think about and hard to imagine.
                             There are also some reasons that I think it should not be banned. One example is that if a child is determined to find out the contents of the banned book it is nearly impossible for any adult to stop them. Also even if the child isn't interested in it at that time they still will find out about it eventually so why not now. I'm not saying that it isn't bad for a child to be exposed to bad concepts at a young age but if they do care then they will find out about it on their own. These are the reasons why I don't think the book 1984 should be banned.
                             These are some reasons that adults may want to ban the book 1984 by George Orwell, and some reasons why I don't think they should.
